Five members of a Maoist retaliation group were killed during a two-hour-long clash with Maoists rebels in Pipara VDC of Kapilvastu.

Pritam Pandey formed the vigilant group about a month ago to avenge

deaths caused by Maoists and to date the group had killed four Maoists.

Reports citing the security forces have said that Maoist rebels

surrounded the camp of the vigilantes and opened fire. After killing

them, the rebels carried away arms that they found in the camp.

Maoists claim that they killed six people including Pandey, however his death has not been confirmed. There were no reports on casualties from the Maoist side.
