A 10-member British Royal Navy and Royal Marines expedition will attempt the first live video broadcast from the 8848 meters Mount Everest summit this spring from Tibet coinciding with the 50th anniversary of its first ascent by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, the British Embassy said.

The British Navy and Marines are also mounting their first attempt on the world’s tallest peak. “The first ascent of Everest was an historic event which consolidated the long and close ties between Britian and Nepal.

It is extremely fitting that the 50th anniversary of that event be marked in this way,” British Ambassador Keith Bloomfield said.

Admiral Sir Jonathon Bank, Commander -in-Chief Fleet, is the expedition’s patron.
