An ex- Gurkha soldier lost a court battle for equal pay and pension from the British Army one day after a historic decision by another British court to compensate three Gurkha POWs $15,000 for serving in Japanese camps with their British counterparts, agencies reported from London Thursday.

Retired Lance Corporal Hari Thapa, 41, said he was racially discriminated by the Ministry of Defence because he was paid substantially less than British soldiers in pay and pension.

An employment tribunal in Cardiff decided it was powerless to rule on the case because Thapa had served most of his 15-year army career in the jungles of Belize in Central America.

Thapa, who is married to a British national and lives in the UK, said he was disappointed with the verdict; he will contest the verdict. nepalnews.com br Nov.28
