KATHMANDU: Everest Hotel, one of the 5 star hotels in Kathmandu, has laid off 47 staff following the decline in customers. Hotel management said that as business declined, it was forced to take the decision of laying off some temporary staff.

The war in Afghanistan has badly affected Nepal’s tourism industry as more than 50 percent tourists have cancelled their hotel booking. However, the management said that if the business picks up, they may call the staff back.

Workers Union has strongly protested the decision of laying off the staff. Workers have demanded reinstatement of the staff.
