European Parliament delegation arrives

A seven-member delegation of the European Parliament led by Neena Gill arrived in Nepal on Sunday for a weeklong visit.

The delegation is in Nepal to study the changed political picture of the country under coordination of South Asian affairs in-charge Lin Ghee.

A press statement issued by European Commission in Nepal said, “The European Parliament delegation, composed of 7 members from different political groups, is due to have meetings with the House of Representatives, the political parties, the Government of Nepal, civil society, and representatives of the international community resident in Nepal.”

According to officials at the Foreign Ministry, the team will meet with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, Deputy PM and Minister for Foreign Affairs, KP Oli, other Ministers, Speaker and Dy Speaker of the House among others.

The team will start political consultations from Monday.

“The European Parliament on 18 May 2006 voted a resolution on Nepal, welcoming Nepal’s return to democratic rule, supporting the steps taken towards a peace process and deciding to send an ad hoc European Delegation to Nepal to assess the situation,” the statement added.

The delegation will hold a press conference in Kathmandu on the last day of the visit.
