The European Union (EU) has announced that it would support Nepal in the implementation of the Renewable Energy Project (REP).

The project which would be executed by the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) intends to create a renewable energy infrastructure in rural areas that would facilitate income generation, sustainable growth and delivery of social services, thus alleviating poverty, said a press release issued by EU Thursday.

“As per it, REP would provide solar energy systems (PV systems) to communities of around 300 VDCs in 21 remote districts of Nepal,” the release said, and added that REP is also supporting solar thermal applications for income generation.

The total project cost is estimated at EUR 15.675 million, and of which EU would contribute EUR 15 million and the rest would be covered by the Nepalese government.
