Electoral process defective: Gautam

Biratnagar, June 10: General secretary of the CPN (ML) Bamdev Gautam has said that the multiparty system will be justified only if the parliamentary system can move forward in accordance with a proportionate election system.

For this the constitution should be amended, he said and shed light on the inability of the people to utilise their rights under the multiparty system in the last ten years.

At a press meet organised by the CPN (ML) district committee Morang here today, general secretary Gautam said the proportionate election system should be put into effect for bringing drastic change in a country where capitalist traditions rule the roost.

In reply to queries raised by journalists, he said India has always been running anti Nepal activities so as to entrap her in its conspiracy and discussed the historical background since British rule.

Mr. Gautam accused india of giving a negative view of Nepal to the Indian masses by slandering leaders of all political parties excluding the cpn uml in an Indian intelligence report published in an Indian magazine and added that HMG has not so far called in the Indian Ambassador to object to the report and protect our self-esteem.

Gautam said as there is no possibility of irrigation from rivers in India, the latter has attempted to irrigate by constructing dams in Nepal. In reply to another question he said the Maoist problem can be solved through dialogue.

At the press conference presided over by Janardan Mainali of the CPN-ML publicity committee Morang, chief of the Mechi sub-bureau Mankumar Gautam said that photographs of non-nationals were taken for voter identity cards by resorting to lathi-charge and blank fire and arrests by police when the CPN-UML and RPP protested alongside the nationalist and patriotic under the leadership of the CPN-ML.
