At a time when the four-party government is gearing up to announce parliamentary vote anytime soon, the CPN (Maoist) has hinted at preventing the polls at all costs.

In a statement Wednesday, Maoist chairman Prachanda said, “The election rhetoric of Deuba (prime minister), instead of making conducive atmosphere for a democratic settlement through reliable international mediation and the constituent assembly will prove costly.”

Prachanda further said, “Our party urges the political parties, the civil society and the common people to rebel against the reactionary regime in order to give completion to the democracy that is overdue in history.” he said claiming “The victory of the people over the reactionaries is quite near.”

Joining the ant- fuel price hike bandwagon, the rebel leader said his party would launch strong nationwide protests if the ‘feudal old regime’ did not withdraw the decision immediately.

“The Deuba-UML government is trying to impose unprecedented trouble on the people to defend the military authoritarianism,” Prachanda said accusing the government of conspiring to consolidate the army by increasing the prices of petroleum products and introducing new tax regulations.

Saying that the present government was going completely against the interest of the working class people as well as the industrialists, the Maoist supremo said the protests against the hike in fuel prices were just.

“We express strong solidarity to the street protests of the political parties against the decision of the old regime,” he said. nepalnews.com mbk Jan 18
