Chief Election Commissioner Achyut Narayan Rajbhandari Sunday alleged the rival Nepal Congress parties are pressurizing the Commission to give a verdict in their favour.

The Nepali Congress Deuba and Koirala have filed claims at the Commission saying they are the original party to inherit the party flag and symbol. The Commission has not said when it will give its verdict.

“Such utterances are a threat to the Commission. Until and unless the Commission is satisfied with the evidences related to the dispute, we will not decide under pressure. “It’s no good to make public statements guided by vested interests and to pressurize the Commission.

‘Such interference will only hinder the Commission’s effort to make an impartial decision. Let no one doubt on the impartiality of the Commission,” Rajbhandari told the Spacetime Dainik daily newspaper.”The issue demands profuse legal inquiry and we are doing that,” Rajbhandari said.

Leaders of both factions have been making threatening public statements and pressurizing the Commission to make a quick decision on the rival claims. nepalnews.com br July 28
