As per the agreement of November 8, the Peace Committee has stepped up its efforts to draft and finalize a comprehensive peace accord to be signed by the government and the Maoists, according to Kantipur daily.

The November 8 agreement states that such a peace accord would be signed by November 16. The meeting of the Peace Committee held at its office at Peace Secretariat on Friday has prepared a draft of the accord, which will be finalized by Saturday.

The Peace Committee, which is headed by general secretary of the Nepali Congress (NC) Ram Chandra Poudel, includes representatives from seven parties as well as other parties represented in the House of Representatives such as Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP), and other faction of People’s Front Nepal (PFN).

After finalizing the draft, it would be submitted to the talks teams of the government as well as the Maoists. It will come into force after it is signed by top leaders of SPA and the Maoists. Sources inform that this accord will formally declare the end of war, as well as proposes to stop Maoist guerrillas from carrying/showing off weapons in the public after they are sent to cantonments and facilitate the return of seized properties and displaced persons, among others.
