The Election Commission today is likely to put an end to the speculations regarding the number of phases in which the November elections are going to be held.
The EC according to sources is mulling to hold the elections in six phases. The CPN (UML), the main opposition party in the dissolved House of Representatives has been demanding that the elections be held in three phases.
The government led by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba however has said it would be difficult to hold the elections in three phases in the given security situation.
Meanwhile the CPN (UML) has protested the appointment of seven election officers by the EC without the approval of the Judicial Service Commission. Seven Joint Secretaries at the Attorney General’s Office were appointed election officers to the districts without the approval of the Judicial Service Commission.
