With just ten days left for the polling of municipal elections to take place, the Election Commission has requested all to support it in order to hold the upcoming civic polls in a peaceful manner.

In a press statement issued on Monday, spokesperson at the Commission, Tejmuni Bajracharya, said that the Commission was concerned at the attack at a mayoral candidate in Lalitpur, Dal Bahadur Rai, earlier in the day.

The Election Commission condemned the attack on Rai, who it said was taking part in an election that was being held in accordance with the essence of multi party democratic system. The Commission also prayed for early recovery of Rai.

Some unidentified gunmen shot at and injured Rai – affiliated to Rastriya Janamukti Party– at around 2:30 p. m. on Monday at his residence at Manbhawan in Lalitpur district. Rai has been undergoing treatment at Patan hospital.

Police said a search operation is underway to nab the assailants. Nobody had been arrested till late in the evening.
