The Election Commission (EC) has issued the regulation for registration of political parties for the purpose of upcoming elections of the constituent assembly.
As per the provision of Election Act, the EC can form regulations for the registration of political parties.
Newspaper reports quoted one of the commissioners of the EC, Dolakh Bahadur Gurung as saying that the EC had sent the regulation to the Law Ministry and will announce the date for registration of the political parties once the regulation was published in Nepal Gazette.
The regulation has the provision that except the political parties, which are represented in the interim parliament, other political parties have to submit signatures of 10 thousand voters for the registration of party.
The EC used to issue directives for the registration of political parties without forming regulations during previous elections.
EC has been formulating necessary regulations and directives essential for the elections of the constituent assembly to hold the elections at the stipulated time.
Ruling seven party alliance and the Maoists have agreed to hold the elections of the constituent assembly by mid June this year.
