The Peace Committee handed over the draft of the peace accord to the government on Sunday.
Coordinator of the committee Ram Chandra Poudel handed over the 10-point draft, which was approved yesterday, to Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula.
The draft to be signed between the seven-party government and the Maoists on November 30, declares end of the armed conflict and bans activities like extortion, abductions, movement of Maoist cadres in combat dresses in public places and display of arms. It also seeks to guarantee the return of seized properties to the rightful owners and create an environment suitable for the repatriation of the internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Nine of the 10 political parties representing the Peace Committee have approved the draft of the peace accord. Shashi Shrestha, the representative of the People’s Front Nepal in the committee, refused to sign it, objecting to a clause that says the Armed Police Force would be mobilised for internal security after the signing of the peace accord.
