Chairman of Nepal Law Reform Commission, Niranjan Thapa Wednesday presented a draft bill on Right to Information to Communications Minister Kamal Thapa, an announcement said.
The bill was formulated in accordance with the Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal 1990. The Constitution has incorporated right to information as one of the fundamental rights of Nepali citizens.
Separate laws on such rights were long standing demands of civic society and journalists. The bill has mainly made it obligatory for government offices to disseminate information if asked to do so by a Nepali citizen, including journalists.
However, the government will not be compelled to give information on some sensitive issues like the security arrangements, according to the bill. nepalnews.com mr Oct 22
