The meeting of the joint technical team on the Pancheswor project concluded Wednesday agreeing to finalise the detailed project report within six months.

The two-day meet could not however address the long standing issues of equal sharing of water, benefits sharing and issue of the Sharada Sahayak Canal in India, downstream of Sharada barrage.

The meeting is known to have discussed elaborately the technical aspects of the project. The joint technical study of the project site is already complete and both the sides pledged to keep in constant touch in order to finalize the DPR.

The DPR on the Pancheswor project was supposed to be finalized within six months from the time of ratification of the Mahakali treaty, which was ratified by Nepal’s parliament in 2053 BS by the coalition government led by Sher Bahadur Deuba.

The DPR however has not been materialized owing to differences of Nepal and India on the issue of water sharing.
