DPM Sherchan met with CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat and politburo member Sitaram Yechuri at the CPI (M) headquarters and discussed several proposals to bring the Maoists to democratic political fold, official news agency Press Trust of India said.
Both the sides noted that the peace process was moving in the right direction and the government and the Maoist rebels should not waste this opportunity to end the bloody conflict, the PTI report said quoting CPI (M) sources.
Election to constituent assembly, confining the Nepali Army and the Maoists’ People’s Liberation Army into barracks and the role of the United Nations in Nepal’s peace process were some of the issues discussed at the meeting.
Both Yechuri and Karat played key role in coordinating parleys between leaders of the CPN (Maoist) and the seven-party alliance (SPA) in the Indian capital, which resulted in the signing of 12-point understanding that led the people’s movement-II in April this year to success. Yechuri visited Nepal three times before and after the people’s movement.
The People’s Front Nepal chairman, who arrived in Delhi on Thursday, to participate in a health conference, pointed out that India’s role was very crucial in resolving the conflict and added that he was there to meet “political dignitaries” to discuss the situation in Nepal, PTI said.
