Answering the queries of the peace process monitoring committee, Oli said there was a general discussion in the cabinet about the letter, but he did not know about the content of the final letter sent to the UN.
The committee had asked Deputy Prime Minister to be present in the committee with a copy of the letter. Members of the committee rapped the DPM for his failure to present the letter.
Oli said he did not know about the letter as the cabinet had given the responsibility of sending the letter to the Prime Minister and Prime Minister was currently in the hospital.
The DPM, however, acknowledged that sending the letter was the Foreign Ministry’s responsibility, but went on to add that he did not even know the whereabouts of the official copy of the letter.
After listening to Oli’s reply, committee members rapped the DPM and charged the government of moving in an autocratic manner.
The government, as per the agreement between the ruling seven party alliance and the Maoists during the high level talks between top leaders of the seven party alliance and Prachanda, send an official letter to the UN asking for its help on arms management and monitoring of the ceasefire code of conduct.
In its letter, the government formally invited the UN for management of weapons and monitoring of peace process in Nepal. The government sent the letter after senior UN officials urged the government to clearly outline the role of the world body in Nepal’s peace process.
