Dozens of protesters held

Dozens of student protesters were apprehended during the aggressive protests in and outside Kathmandu on Wednesday, witnesses and various reports said.

The protesters vandalised many vehicles bringing traffic movement almost to a halt during their one-hour long vehicular strike. The strike, in practice continued for more than two hours, the reports said.

In Kathmandu, students burned rubber tyres in front of colleges like Saraswati, Min Bhawan Pashupati, among others. Police arrested most of the protesters from Putali Sadak area, where they marched a rally that began from the Ratnapark area.

Police resorted to tear gas in front of Tri Chandra College and also charged with batons in some other places, witnesses said. Protesters did not allow any government vehicle to pass through Exhibition Road throughout the day.

Students, for violating the strike, torched a taxi plated Ba. 1 Ja 5395 and a public bus plated Ba. 1 Kha. 7842 in different parts of the Valley, police sources said.

In Banke, students announced a 9-hour-long strike starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday. The strike obstructed life in and around Banke district, the reports said, adding, similar protests were also held in other parts of the country.
