Students protesting in front of the Ministry of Education and Sports Monday afternoon…
At least one dozen students of Purwanchal University (PU) were arrested from a demonstration in front of the Ministry of Education and Sports Monday afternoon.

Demanding resignation of the vice-chancellor of the PU, Prof Jagat KC, over 200 students demonstrated in front of the main gate of the ministry and blocked traffic in the area but were taken into custody within minutes.

The protesting students also clashed with the police but no violence was reported.

“We were protesting peacefully but the police used force and arrested us,” a protester said while being collared towards a police van. The arrested students have been kept at the Police Academy in Maharajgung.

The students have been saying that vice-chancellor KC, who was appointed by the erstwhile royal government, is responsible for mismanagement in the university. They have been protesting for his resignation since last few days.
