Support for the poor parents and their quadruplets born in Pokhara this week is swelling. Individuals and institutions in and around the resort town are contributing in cash and kind.
A support committee had received Rs.130,000 in donations until Thursday evening, reports from the resort town said. Some have gone individually to the Western Regional Hospital and the Manipal Teaching Hospital to contribute.
Rupa Thapa gave birth to the quadruplets, all sons, spread over two days from Sunday; she delivered the first child at home and three others at hospital following complications. The parents planned for a son but where blessed with four instead; they have two daughters.
Chij Kumari Gurung, 47, a mother of triplets, visited Rupa at the hospital Thursday and gave her advice and encouragement; she also contributed Rs.5,001; Bimal, 21, one of the three triplets was by her mother’s side.
Rupa is recovering at the Western Regional Hospital while four infants are being cared for at the Manipal Teaching Hospital.
The children had to be separated from the mother because the incubator at the Western Regional Hospital was mal-functioning.
