Charikot, Jan. 23: The market development programme designed to channelise the high-value agro-based products in the market is now in operation in Dolakha district.
Seeds and seedlings of vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage, cucumber, radish and tomato will be made available to the farmers at a 50 per cent subsidy rate under the programme which has been introduced just in a dozen of districts across the country.
Spray, sprinkler, polythene pipes and plastic sheets will also be provided to them at a subsidised rate, assistant agriculture development officer Bharat Bahadur Acharya says.
The programme has been implemented in the VDCs that are linked by the road networks including that of Lakuridanda, Bhusapheda, Bocha, Suspa Chhemavati Sundrawati, Sunkhani, Pawati, Phasku, Namdu, Kabre, Gairamudi, Bhirge, Jiri, Bhalu, Japhe, Bhedpu, Melung and Bhirkot as well as in Bhimeshwar municipality.
Under the programme, seeds and seedlings worth Rs. 150,000 have so far been distributed.
Some 36 type of training are held for the farmers of this locality each year and observation tours to a district renowned for particular vegetable cultivation arranged in collaboration with the technicians.
Under the programme, financial assistance of Rs. 511,000 is made available under the programme from which some 400 households of that locality are said to have benefitted.
With the start of the vegetable production in these VDCs, the District Agriculture Development Programme also helps farmers to provide market for their products.
