Responding to queries at a press meet organised at the Department of Information in the capital, Kathmandu, on Sunday, Minister Dhakal—who is also a government spokesman– said HMG/Nepal would like to urge the diplomatic community, including British envoy, to follow diplomatic norms.
Every country has got its own political reality and we want the diplomats to be sensitive towards this fact, he added. The minister said the government did not want to remind the diplomatic community what those norms were.
The minister was commenting on recent remarks by British ambassador to Nepal, Keith G Bloomfield, in which he had asked people to judge for themselves about the situation of rule of law in the country after the royal takeover in February.
The Foreign Ministry had summoned British envoy and the Indian envoy in Kathmandu, Shiv Shanker Mukherjee, after the royal takeover. The officials are also said to be peeved at critical remarks made by US Senator Patrick Leahy and former US Senator Tom Daschle, among others, regarding the royal takeover.
