The Department for International Development (DFID) has resumed construction of the 48 km Diktel-Chyandada road in Khotang district.

However, construction of three road sections of the district – the 75km Diktel-Khotang Bazaar, 54km Bijule Bhanjyang-Lamidanda-Aiselukharka and 78km Diktel-Bijule Bhanjyang-Jayaramghat have been cancelled because works in these sections could not progress as expected.

“We wanted to resume construction of all four road sections but we are at present focussing on only one road section because we have limited budget,” The Himalayan Times daily quoted Roger Weatherell, programme manager at Rural Access Programme as saying.

He said that it would be wise to concentrate in few areas with better and maximum output, than to cover vast area. Construction of the 177-km road had begun in 2003.
