Deuba says he wants united, efficient NC

Biratnagar, Jan. 9 : Ex-prime minister and Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that he wishes to develop the Nepali Congress into an efficient and united party in which views emanating from the minority faction would also be respected and everyone would be free to express his views in the party without coming under the influence of fear, inducements or greed.

Former prime minister and candidate for party central president Deuba was speaking to journalists at Biratnagar Airport today in course of a visit to various districts in the eastern region.

He also expressed his desire to consolidate the Nepali Congress in order to halt the deterioration in the state of law and order in the country and corruption.

He said that his main agenda would be to give emphasis to the upliftment of various communities and women, and strengthen democracy by alleviating poverty, resolving the problem of unemployment and bringing economic prosperity to the nation.

Likewise, Inaruwa, former prime minister and youth leader Deuba has said that there should be an environment for complete unity in the party to control the violence and terror prevailing in the country.

Addressing NC activists of Sunsari District here today, former prime minister Deuba said that the party cadres were for change in the leadership and called upon them to go by their conscience at the general convention.

NC central member Bijaya Kumar Gachchhedar said that responsible persons in the party had brought in distortions and inconsistencies and that the younger generation should take over the party leadership.

MP Laxman Prasad Mehta said the party leadership should ensure unity in the party. MP Hari Narayan Chaudhari said that the rift in the party had been benificial only to the Maoists and therefore it should be put to an end for good.

MP Hom Nath Dahal said that being a democratic party, the NC should accommodate the views of all.

Former ministers Prem Raj Angdambe and Bimalendra Nidhi, Dr. Prakash Chandra Mahat, Dr. Mrigendra Rijal and Sitaram Mahat also spoke on party unity at the programme chaired by Rajeev Koirala.
