Bardiya, May 20: Former prime minister and Nepali Congress central member Sher Bahadur Deuba met separately with Nepali Congress party workers and representatives of sister organisations and affiliated professional associations and party well-wishers at the party’s district office here on Friday.
On the occasion, Nepal Press Union Bardiya district unit held a press meeting with Mr. Deuba on the present situation and contemporary national issues.
Fielding journalists’ queries during the press meeting, Mr. Deuba reiterated his full cooperation to the government and said the government would last its full term.
Regarding resolution of the Maoist problem, the former premier said- “my term as the convenor of the high-level Maoist Problem Resolution Commission lasts till the end of ashar and I am hopeful of resolving the problem through dialogue.”
The first round of talks was held with one comrade Ashok, a Maoist leader. The talks have not been held after that due to the change of government and I will make efforts to initiate the dialogue with the Maoists after I return to the capital, Mr. Deuba replied to a journalist’s question.
Former prime minister Deuba also said that he was always ready for implementation of the Karnali Multipurpose Project.
Although it has been felt that the project implementation has become a complex issue, the time for its re-evaluation has not come yet, he added.
Stating he was not for creating various factions in the party, Mr. Deuba said he would decide whether or not to fight for the post of party president after consulting with party colleagues.
