Kathmandu, Jan. 1 : The 44 newly-elected Nepali Congress Mahadhibeshan representatives from Kathmandu have condemned what they call a wave of violence, agitation and anger that erupted in Kathmandu due to an unsubstantiated remark ascribed to a Hindi film actor.
The violence has ultimately led to a big loss of life and property of Nepal and the Nepalese themselves, they say.
In a joint statement, they express the view that the consequences of such incidents are not limited to the capital alone but have a far-reaching effect at the national and international levels also, and for this reason, His Majesty’s Government, all the concerned bodies including the political parties and all the institutions and organisations as well as individuals should take the matter seriously and act with a sense of responsibility in that connection.
Describing as “uncivilized and despicable acts” the mistreatment meted out to the Indian citizens and the Nepalese of Terai areas and the attacks on several private and business enterprises in the course of the protests, the 44 Nepali Congress Mahadhibeshan representatives have also assailed the arson and vandalising of the Nepal Sadbhavana Party’s central office last Friday by a group of unidentified persons.
They demand that a fair investigation be made into the incident and the guilty be brought to book.
There are apparently some sinister design to disgrace and undermine the Nepalese people’s hard-won democracy, they say, noting that whosoever are behind these incidents can never be democratic-minded or patriotic people.
The Nepali Congress, which has been a symbol of people’s faith and stability in the country from its very inception, has great responsibility to shoulder and a big role to play in a grave situation like this, the statement says.
Drawing the attention of the main political parties towards the alertness and sensitivity for the security of public life and property and the welfare of the country which they are required to demonstrate at such a juncture considering the seriousness of the situation, the representatives called for extending support to the government.
At such a time when the situation calls for providing full support to the government, the move to register a no-confidence proposal against the leader of the Parliamentary Party and Prime Minister by some Nepali Congress MPs cannot be termed a timely and rational move, the 44 NC Mahadhibeshan representatives said in the statement urging the sponsors of the no-confidence proposal to withdraw it in the interest of the party’s unity.
Those signing the joint statement are Tirtha Ram Dangol, Shyam Lal Shrestha, Narahari Acharya, Binod Bhattarai, Manmohan Bhattarai, Ambika Basnet, Lokesh Dhakal, Krishna Prasad Bhandari, Shivahari Poudel, Narayan Prasad Dhungana, Mahesh Kumar Dhungana, Sudarshan Acharya, Manahari Khadka, Bharat Bidari, Ram Bahadur K.C., Bhanu Kumar Sharma, Kiran Shrestha, Amod Rai, Ram Babu Bista, Dr. Ramnath Khanal, Chiranjibi Nidhi Tiwari, Kamal Chitrakar, Kedar Manandhar, Birendra Bhakta Shrestha, Rabindra Lal Shrestha, Shiva Dhoj Basnet, Ram Lal Shrestha, Sanjib Adhikari, Krishna Prasad Chalisey, Jyoti Prasad Koirala, Gauri Prasad Dawadi, Bhim Prasad Acharya, Marshal Julum Shakya, Haribol Bhattarai, Damodar Gautam, Sriram Shrestha, Prof. Bhimsen Das Pradhan, Shyam Shahi, Prabin Dhungana, Shilu Pyari Karmacharya, Bikas Bhakta Shrestha, Badri Bahadur Gotame and Chandra Bahadur Thapa.

In a statement issued today, Nepali Congress Mahadhiveshan representatives Uddhav Dhakal, Braj Kishore Singh and Gambhir Prasad Nirala say, “a no-trust proposal originating from within the Nepali Congress itself is an irrelevant act at this time when the nation is beset with terror and uncertainties.
They have also asked all Nepali Congress MPs to unite and resolve to dispel the prevailing uncertainty. They also stress that the Party President Girija Prasad Koirala should take the party leadership in the upcoming 10th Mahadhiveshan of the party.
