Amid tight security, about 400 people of the depressed class Wednesday offered communal worship at the Pashupatinath and Gujheshowri temples.

The march went off peacefully. In a symbolic move to assert their right to worship at temples, the people of the depressed or the dalit communities went in a procession

to the holiest Hindu shrines in the city to offer worship.

The march to the temples coincided with a government announcement promising unhindered and unrestricted access to religious sites for members of the depressed communities with threats of legal action against obstructers.

Various political parties, social organizations and human rights activists marched to the temples along with the dalits to show solidarity.

Several speakers at a meeting said an eight point programme of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba was the boldest government initiative to initiate social reforms in the last 11 years.
