Denmark has pledged a “flexible” amount of money and expertise for the peace-building process, rehabilitation and reconstruction in Nepal.
Speaking at an interaction in the capital on Monday, Danish ambassador to Nepal, Finn Thilsted said, Denmark has set a very flexible amount, Rs 500 million for the whole peace process.”
Denmark, a major donor in Nepal’s education sector, however said it is up to the government to decide how to utilise the amount.
He praised the “tremendous change” and the way “progress is being made” after the political changes, improvement in security situation, including the recently agreed upon 25-point code of conduct between the government and the Maoists.
He further said that now the code of conduct has to be implemented for a better Nepal.
The Danish ambassador, however, labeled the current scenario as “fragile recovery” before everything is settled and peace and stability are completely restored.
He also said it would be a “good signal” if the UN is involved in the peace process.
He suggested that the peace process should ensure consolidation of the democratic process to draft a new constitution to address the root cause of conflict for peace, development and stability in Nepal.
Asked about his view on constitutional monarchy, he quipped, “We are happy to have a queen in our country. It is for the Nepalis to decide.”
