Death toll from floods, landslides reaches 269, eight more deaths reported

KATHMDNU: The death toll from floods and landslides triggered by torrential rains in the recent weeks has reached 269 following additional reports of the death of eight more people including three in Dolakha, two in Terathum and one each in Bhojpur, Kavre and Sunsari districts, the Home Ministry said Thursday.

The Ministry has said 30 tents and 2280 blankets in aid of the flood and landslide affected people, which were handed over to the government of Nepal by the government of Japan have been kept at the district administration office in Kathmandu.

Arrangements are being made to sent the relief materials to the flood and landslide affected areas.  The relief materials are worth 6.5 million rupees.

The Ministry has decided to cut three day’s salary of the special and first class officials, two day’s salary of the second and third class officials and one day’s salary of junior employees of the Ministry to deposit the cash in the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.

The government employees in Makawanpur, which faced heavy loss of property and lives in the recent floods, have also donated cash ranging from one to three-day salaries to the victims. A total of 43 districts have been affected by landslides.
