KATHMANDU:  In a bid to foil activities of political parties, the local administration in Rukum district has banned rallies in Khalanga, the district headquarters of Rukum with immediate effect from Thursday.

A district based rights activist informed Nepalnews that the ban came coinciding with the proposed mass meeting of the UML on Friday. The District Administration Office (DAO) Rukum issued a notice on Thursday declared Khalanga as prohibitory area, saying the Maoist may also infiltrate the political activities of parties.

UML is organizing various programs under people’s awareness program in district and national level against February 1 royal takeover.
