The joint struggle committee of Dalits organized chhaka jam (traffic halt) at Maitighar area, Tuesday morning protesting the misbehaviour of the ‘upper caste’ people in Doti district.

After organizing traffic halt in the area, they organized sit-in in front of Singhdurbar, the main administrative hub of the country.

Talking to Nepalnews, Dalit activist, Durga Soab informed that they are organizing protest programme demanding fulfillment of their five point demands.

She added that they are demanding for forming a high-level committee to probe the Doti incident, take action against the culprits immediately, providing compensation and treatment facilities to the injured people, immediately implement the historic proclamation of the parliament and provide security to Dalits.

She further said that they will continue their protest until their demands are fulfilled.

At least 50 people were injured when a group of ‘upper caste’ people attacked Dalits when the latter tried to enter into a temple in Silgadhi, the district headquarter of Doti, Sunday afternoon.
