Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Cuba, Abelardo Morento, met Foreign Minister Ramesh Nath Pandey at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tuesday.

In a brief interview to reporters after the meeting, Morento said Cuba had viewed the recent political development in Nepal as an internal matter. Alluding to the reactions of a section of the international community on the Royal Proclamation of Feb 1, he said that Nepali people – not the foreigners – had the right to decide their future.

“Nepali people have the right to decide their destiny. Each country is entitled to determine its internal matters suitable to its interest,” said he.

He further said that the reports of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on the human rights situation in Nepal and the Republic of Cuba were biased.

Minister Pandey told reporters that the meeting with Morento was focused on the non-alignment movement. “Cuba is an active member of the non-alignment movement. We basically discussed that issue and other matters of bilateral interest,” said he.

The Cuban minister who came here on Sunday left for New Delhi, India, today.
