Lawmakers of the main opposition party CPN-UML discussed the current political situation in the country and their party’s strategy within and outside parliament.
In a meeting of its parliamentary party, which was held Wednesday, they hailed the recent announcement of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba concerning the social and economic reform package including land reform and decided to fully support it, said CPN-UML lawmaker and whip Parshu Meghi Gurung.
They criticized the protest programmes of RPP and Nepal Sadbhavana Party against the government’s land ceiling programme and described the protest as a feudal culture. They also discussed the developments concerning talks between the
government and Maoist rebels and said the party would support this initiative.
In the begging of the meeting, opposition leader and general secretary of the CPN-UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal briefed his party’s lawmakers about the decisions of party’s central committee meetings and recent meeting and discussion between Mr Nepal and Maoist leader Prachanda in Silgudhi of India.
Another leader Bharat Mohan Adhikari spoke of the development in the talks with different leftist parties for creating a boarder unity. CPN-UML lawmakers then suggested their leaders to go ahead with talks for left unity.
