CPN-UML begins closed session

After its inaugural session of the 7th general party convention Saturday in Janakpur, the CPN-UML Sunday began its closed door session, reports from the town said.

The closed session will discuss political and economic reports of Party General Secretary Madav Kumar Nepal, an amendment proposal to the party’s constitution, proposals for a constituent assembly to introduce sweeping political changes at the national level; the closed session will also discuss K.P. Oli’s and others’ differing proposals, party sources said. The convention ends Wednesday.

Radical Maoists have been pressing for a constituent assembly to draft a new constitution. Nepal Sunday announced the dissolution of the party central committee elected by the sixth Nepalgunj convention and other central level committees at the beginning of the closed session Sunday.

Nepal announced a nine member committee headed by Amrit Bohara to manage the 7th general convention proceedings. The proposals will be discussed Monday, Nepal will furnish replies and

voting will be held before Wednesday confirming Nepal’s grip on the party.
