Entrepreneurs have complained that though industrial area covers 80 percent of total GDP, Cottage and Small Industries remain largely neglected.
Speaking at the 7th National Conference of Nepal Cottage and Small Industries Association, participants expressed that due to lack of bankers’ trust on granting loans, they are suffering from paying high interest rates.
They added that despite the central bank’s directive to invest on industries in remote and rural areas, the commercial banks had opted to pay fines to the central bank rather than making such investments.
However, secretary at Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, Bharat Bahadur Thapa said the government is always willing to assist Cottage and Small industries and urged the entrepreneurs to come up with concrete proposals for the same.
