Kathmandu, Oct.15: In a controversial decision, the National Sports Council Saturday formed an 31 member All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) ad hoc committee under chairperson Mrs. Geeta Rana, an announcement said. Mrs. Rana is Principal of Galaxy Public School in the capital and the first woman to head the organization.
The ad hoc committee will conduct the daily business of the Association, the announcement said. The board of the apex sports body made the decision at a meeting headed by Minister for Education and Sports Minister and Chairman of the National Sports Council Amod Prasad Upadhaya.
The Council said the term of Ganesh Thapa as President expired last Thursday and the election for the new executive he announced for Monday is invalid, the Council said. The National Sports Council also warned employees of punitive action in they take part in Monday’s election announced by Thapa, a former captain of he Nepali national football team.
Mrs. Rana also issued a statement saying the ANFA elections scheduled for Monday had been postponed indefinitely. In a tussle with the government, the ANFA headed by Thapa is determined to go ahead with Monday’s election despite the dissolution, said Mahesh Bista, Vice President of ANFA loyal to Thapa.
Representatives of FIFA, the soccer’s world governing body, and Asian Football Confederation( AFC) are arriving in the capital Sunday to oversee the elections, a source said. nepalnews.com br
