Nepali Congress (Democratic) president Sher Bahadur Deuba has said whether his party and the Nepali Congress (NC) will unite will depend on how NC president Girija Prasad Koirala handles the issue.
“I have always been in favour of unification between the two parties, but the unification will depend on the behaviour of the Prime Minister,” Deuba said addressing a news conference in Kailali’s Dhangadhi Sunday. Stating that his party had already formed a taskforce to expedite the unification process, he accused the NC leadership of dillydallying in this process.
He also reiterated his stance that party unification should be done at all levels and that the NC (D) should get respectable position after the unification.
Deuba, a three-time Prime Minister, leads the NC (D) since the split in the Congress party in 2002. Despite claims that they were seriously trying to unite the two parties before the constituent assembly polls, the top leaders have not yet started formal discussion on the matter.
