Committees for Buddhist conference formed

Kathmandu, Jan. 10: A 209-member Main Committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Chairman of the Lumbini Development Trust (LDT) Tarini Datta Chataut to organize the International Buddhist Conference in Lumbini on February 1 and 2.

The main committee which met here today also formed a 13-member steering committee under the chairmanship of Minister Chataut.

The steering committee members include among others advisor to the LDT and Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Ramkrishna Tamrakar, Minister of State for Health Tirtharam Dangol and MPs Duryodhan Singh Chaudhari, Bharat Kumar Shaha, Devendra Raj Kandel, Birendra Kumar Kanaudiya and Surya Prasad Pradhan.

The meeting also formed a 155-member preparatory committee under the chairmanship of LDT Vice Chairman Omkar Prasad Gauchan and 12 different sub-committees to make necessary arrangements for the conference.

Fifty-eight Buddhist organisations and Buddhist Bhikchus and scholars from 24 countries are invited to the conference.

At the meeting, LDT vice chairman Gauchan, member secretary Janak Lal Shrestha and treasurer Chhatra Raj Shakya shed light on the conference.
