The civil society organisations are preparing to mark April 24 as the Loktantra Day by holding a “citizen’s mass meeting” at Basantapur.

The Loktantra Day Organising Committee formed by the civil society organisations has decided to hold the mass meeting as well as hold a discussion programme titled “The People’s Movement: Recollection, Evaluation and Monitoring the Road Ahead” on April 22.

The meeting of the committee chaired by citizen-activist Padma Ratna Tuladhar also decided to prepare a video-commemoration of the 19-day People’s Movement and distribute it for country-wide screening on 23 April.

The committee has appealed to organisations and citizen’s forums all over the country to commemorate Loktantra Day, stating that it was important to “look back at the People’s Movement as a way of generating momentum for the Constituent Assembly process”.

The committee is made up of unaffiliated citizens as well as community organistaions including the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NFIN), various student and trade unions, human rights and other NGOs, as well as professional groups such as the Federation of Nepalese Journalists.
