Expressing serious concerns over the failure of the government and the political parties to move ahead as per the mandate of the People’s Movement II and in order to build pressure for it, the Civil Society Movement for Peace and Democracy has been staging a sit-in programme in the capital city from Wednesday morning.

There is participation of over 150 people including representatives from disabled, dalit, indigenous and professional organisations in the 24-hour sit-in programme which began from 8 am in the morning at the Maitighar mandala.

The sit-in is being organised to apply pressure on the government for announcing the date of election to constituent assembly, going for proportional election system, establishment of democratic republic, ensuring the rights of minorities and immediate action against those found guilty of suppressing the Jana Andolan II, said its coordinator Dr Devendra Raj Pandey.

Apart from Dr. Pandey other noted personalities showing their participation in the sit in are civil movement leader Dr Sundar Mani Dixit, writer/activist Khagendra Sangraula, Malla K Sundar, and leftist leader Sita Ram Tamang.

Street plays as well as various other programmes are being staged in the sit-in which would go on till 8 am Thursday morning.
