CIAA files cases against officials for illegal felling of trees

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed separate corruption cases at the Special Court Friday after carrying out the necessary probe into the illegal felling of trees on both sides of Manushmara phase one and phase two irrigation canal and has sought to recover Rs 38,497,380.

The amount according to CIAA was misappropriated by felling trees planted alongside the irrigation canal. The CIAA has also sought a fine equivalent to the amount misappropriated from the accused.

In this connection, separate cases have been filed against Surendra Prasad Singh, Chairman of the Manushmara Irrigation Water Users Committee, other office bearers and members of the committee as well as C.D.E. Rameswar Bharati and overseer Bandhu Lal Chaudhari at the Sarlahi District Irrigation Office and Inspector Narayan Prasad Adhikari at the Ilaka Police Office Barhathawa under the Prevention of Corruption Act-2017.

In another charge sheet filed Friday against Amiri Raya Yadav, the chairman of Maushmara Phase 2 Water Users Committee, the acting district forest officer Raja Baral and ranger Sarojananda Mishra of the district forest office, Sarlahai and Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar Singh, the CIAA has sought imprisonment and a fine to the tune of Rs. 60,191,647 which the CIAA claims was misappropriated by felling trees along the phase-2 irrigation canal of the irrigation project.

The CIAA has also sought to recover the misappropriated amount from the accused.

Meanwhile a decision has been made to take departmental action against the chief district officer of Sarlahi district who has been suspended from his post in course of investigations.
