KATHMANDU, June 1: The rescue operation for MI-17 Asian Airlines helicopter with 10 on board that went missing on Friday had to be suspended due to bad weather today, according to the Rescue Co-ordination Centre (RCC) at the Tribhuvan International Airport. The rescue efforts would resume tomorrow.
A statement issued today by RCC said that the rescue operation that began at 5 a.m. today had to be halted at 9.30 a.m. due to bad weather. A reward of Rs 50,000 for anyone who provides the first information about the missing aircraft and the passengers has been announced today. Yesterday the award announced was of Rs 25,000.
Officials at the RCC said that altogether four helicopters were used for the rescue of the missing chopper that went missing with six passengers and four crew members in Lukla area Friday morning.
The chopper left Makalu Base Camp for Lukla airport and went missing on its way. Its last contact was made at 10.02 a.m., nine minutes after its take off from Makalu Base Camp.
