Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Poudel has said that change in the political system should not affect the independence of Judiciary.

Speaking at an interaction in the capital on Saturday, on challenges faced by the judiciary in the context of Recent Constitutional Development, CJ Poudel said, “Political change should not affect the independence of judiciary.”
“The objectives of the democracy can be achieved through social justice and free and fair judiciary,” Poudel added.
He further said review of courts’ verdicts by the executive or the legislative organ will be a blatant intervention in the independent of Judiciary and added that only the judiciary has the authority to review the verdicts.
He also expressed strong reservation over the provision of re-appointment of Justices in the draft interim statute.
The chief justice further said he is ready to take any action for the protection of independence of judiciary.
Speaking at the same programme, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Narendra Bikram Nemwang said that the government is committed for the protection of independence of judiciary and added tat the existing constitutional gap will be bridged through consensus.
Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula urged the justices to move in line with recent political development in the country.
He added that the government is ready to correct mistakes, if any, in recent formulated draft interim constitution.
Referring to the case filed at the apex court challenging the historic proclamation of the parliament on May 18, Sitaula said he is confident that the judiciary will respect the people’s aspiration.
Speaking at the same program, Speaker Subash Nemwang said democracy could not be institutionalized without independence of Judiciary. Nemwang appreciated the SC for taking a historic decision of sacking the Royal Commission for Corruption Control during the royal regime.
