Former Indian Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar arrived in Kathmandu for a three-day informal visit Tuesday afternoon.

Top leaders of Nepali Congress including president Girija Prasad Koirala and Indian embassy officials were present at Tribhuvan International Airport to receive him, according to a report of Kantipur television, a private TV channel.

As usual, the capital city was abuzz with colorful rumors about the Indian leader’s visit, particularly in this juncture when the country is badly into political turmoil. Chandra Shekhar himself chose to remain silent about the political matters of Nepal, nevertheless.

As the rumors continue to do rounds, the main reason of the Indian leader being here, it is learnt, is to attend a wedding ceremony of Nepali Congress leader Chakra Prasad Bastola’s daughter.

Chandra Shekhar received an audience from the King today evening. He is also believed to be holding discussions with top leaders of political parties during his stay in Kathmandu.
