Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand Saturday hinted that it was possible that the government would hold elections within six months in order to avoid a constitutional crisis.

The Constitution has clearly stated that anybody holding a post in the government needs to be elected to the House of Representatives within six months. As none of the Ministers in Chand’s cabinet are elected members, the Constitution does not allow them to continue being Ministers for more than six months.

Speaking at a programme organised by the Reporters’ Club in Pokhara, Chand said the recent royal audience to the leaders of the Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML) could possibly help to address the existing crisis in the country.
