Former prime minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand Monday blamed Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba for creating ground for the introduction of an amended Government’s Work Performance Regulations (WPR) that augmented King’s role in state affairs.

Organizing a press conference at his residence this afternoon, Chand said it was all because of Deuba that the WPR came into being.

“I agree that some changes were made in the WPR during my tenure, but it was Deuba who sowed the seeds of political turmoil in the country by recommending for the dissolution of the parliament,” Chand, who has been facing charges for the palace-friendly WPR, said.

He further said, “The changes then government made in the WPR should be viewed in the light of the situation at that time.”

Chand also scoffed at the claims of Deuba that he has annulled the WPR. “If he has annulled it, how is he going to run the government?” he questioned, adding that Deuba was creating unnecessary hype about the WPR.

“I have no problem if he has amended it. But, I have sharp objection over his interpretation of the WPR,” he said.

Then assistant minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Anuradha Koirala was also present at the press meet.
