Kathmandu, June 22: Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala said Friday “judging by the people’s awareness programmes, their participation, their suggestions, etc., the census statistics are expected to be reliable.” Koirala said this on Census Day Friday marked as a national holiday. The Prime Minister also thanked teachers, students, government and non governmental employees, general people, UN agencies and other organizations directly or indirectly involved in the census exercise.
The day is being observed with the slogan: “No Repetition, No Omission.” 27,000 employees have been mobilized to collect data taken once every 10 years. Preliminary results will be available mid August. Director General of the Central Bureau of Statistics, Keshab Raj Sharma, said the census will be complete June 26.
