KATHMANDU: The Chief District Officer (CDO) of Dadeldhura district Narayan Raj Timilsena has asked political parties to attend a meeting to select ‘capable and nationalist’ candidates for the upcoming municipal polls, reports said.
This is the first time a government employee is selecting candidates for elections.
The government has announced municipal polls for February 8 next year to revive the multiparty democracy.
In a letter of reference, the CDO asked parties to attend the meeting for the selection of candidates for the upcoming municipal polls.
Issuing press statements, district committees of major opposition parties Nepali Congress (NC), NC-Democratic, CPN UML and People’s Front Nepal marked the incident as an attempt to expand autocratic rule.
