His nearest rival Hari Prasad Gharti secured 6133 votes. Nepali Congress candidate Gangaram Dangi fared third with 4791 votes.
Prime Minister and chairman of the Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal had won from this constituency in the CA elections last year.

The counting of votes of the by-elections held Friday in Rolpa has begun Saturday afternoon.
According to initial results, the Unified CPN (Maoist) candidate Santosh Budhamagar (Maoist) is leading with 1,913 votes. His nearest opponent Hari Prasad Gharti of the CPN (UML) has secured 1,513 votes and NC candidate Gangaram Dangi has got 689 votes.

One day after the Supreme Court issued a show cause notice to six Maoist leaders for undermining the judiciary by giving expressions against the court, senior leader of the Unified CPN (Maoist) and Finance minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has accused the justices of acting in a ‘Panchayati Style.’
Addressing a mass assembly in Palungtar, Gorkha Saturday afternoon, Bhattarai said the justices who had issued show cause notice (against him) for saying the judiciary should be democratised are working like justices of the Panchayat era.
He challenged the justices who issued such notice, to jail them if they can. FM Bhattarai also accused the court of obstructing in formation of Commission on the Disappeared.

Four Nepalis arrested by Indian police from the border area of Bahraich and Shravasti districts of India on May 25, last year in possession of illicit drugs have been jailed, reports say.
The Bahraich court has slapped varying jail terms to Sunita Rai and Jeewan Gharti of Dang and Uma Seri and Chandra Thapa of Rolpa.
Rai found in possession of 2.2 kg heroin is fined 150,000 and slapped a jail-term of 14 years and Seri found in possession of 1.5 kg heroin is fined 100,000 and slapped a jail-term of 12 years. Six persons have been injured in a clash with the police in Jamuwa of Sunsari along the east-west highway Saturday afternoon.
The clash occurred when police deployed for by-elections in Morang were returning to Saptari. Police charged batons on the victims after the latter pelted stones at the police trucks.
The Koshi flood victims had obstructed transportation along the highway as part of their protests with various demands.
The police also fired three rounds of bullets in the air to control the tension.

The Unified CPN (Maoist) and the CPN (UML) have formed a six-member joint task force to investigate the killing of Prachanda Thaiba on March 26 in Butwal and other incidents of attacks and assaults in different parts of the country.
A meeting of the high-level joint political mechanism of the two ruling parties held Saturday afternoon in UML parliamentary party office, Singha Durbar formed the task force in an attempt to ease the relation between the two parties.
The meeting attended by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and UML chairman Jhala Nath Khanal with other top leaders of both parties has given 24 hours for the task force to submit its initial report.
The high-level joint mechanism will meet again Sunday to discuss when the task force submits its initial report.
The UML-which has been obstructing the House demanding the arrest of the guilty of Thaiba murder case-has said, it will allow the smooth functioning of the parliament if the initial report is positive.

The parliament meeting scheduled for Saturday afternoon has been postponed for Monday through a notice by parliament secretariat for the second time in this session.
The parliament secretariat said it was postponed due to ‘special reason’. Failure of the parties to reach a consensus for smooth functioning of the House led to repeated postponement of the meeting.
The parliament has not entered into its formal business though the session was called some two weeks back. The parties have informally agreed to extend the session by another one month.
The secretariat notice today said, next sitting of the House will be on Monday 3 p.m. Meeting of the Constituent Assembly halted since the CA members disbursed to districts for collecting opinion from people, has also been called for the same day.
The meeting of the two ruling communist party – Unified CPN (Maoist) and CPN (UML) – held this morning failed to reach any agreement on resuming the business of the parliament.
The meeting attended by senior leaders from both the parties including Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and UML chairman Jhalanath Khanal ended inconclusively, UML leaders told media persons after the meeting. They said next meeting will be held shortly to discuss the issue further. Maoist leaders denied speaking.

Two ruling communist parties have won one each seat in Dhanusha constituency 5 and Kaski constituency 1 in the by-elections.
According to latest reports from Kaski, Maoist candidate Krishna Bahadur Gurung has been declared winner in the election securing 12,257 votes. His nearest rival Nepal Congress candidate Deepak Gurung received 32 votes less than him. UML follows in third position with 11,118 votes. The seat was formerly won by Maoist leader Dev Gurung.
In Dhanusha, CPN (UML) candidate Raghubir Mahashet has won the election. He received 13,230 votes while his rival Terai Madhes Loktantrik Party candidate Shri Krishna Yadav received 12,189 votes. Nepali Congress candidate Chandra Mohan Yadav stood third in the race. The seat was formerly won by Nepal Congress.

Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index lost 4.37 points over the week to close at 660.36 points on Thursday, due to investors’ low level confidence towards the country’s sole secondary market.
As per a statement of the NEPSE, a total of 264,300 units of shares of 102 companies were traded on its floor. The turnover for the week amounted to Rs 188.68 million, down from 267.22 million in the last week. Of the total transactions, turnover of category ‘A’ companies alone valued at Rs 119 million, which accounts for 63.07 percent of the total turnover this week.
As far as performance of different groups goes, the index of commercial banks tumbled by 3.32 points over the week while the indices for development banks, finances and insurance companies dropped by 13.92 points, 9.25 points and 8.43 points respectively.
